I’m not involved in much because of my family situation, but what I was involved in always showed my passion in either journalism or public service, which are both things that would help me in my intended major. I had him for honors English freshman year, I have him now for AP Lit and he started helping out at my school’s newspaper last year. I don’t usually excel at creative writing (even though I like it), but this one just came naturally and I loved the outcome. I said I wanted to meet Caddy Compson from Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury. I wrote about the first time I snuck out, which happened to be going by myself into the city for the Pride Parade as someone who is LGBTQ+ but hasn’t come out to family. Again, not the best written, but personal. It definitely wasn’t my best in terms of prose, but it was personal. I wrote about immigrating here at a young age and my personal path to citizenship, which included spending late nights with my mom studying for the test.
